There is currently no official word about what the premise of this movie might be. The latest film in the James Bond series is *always* besieged by dozens of premise rumors (often fueled by creative writers working for British tabloid newspapers), so this movie is expected to be no different. What is known, of course, is that this film will depict the further adventures of British secret agent James Bond (Brosnan), AKA 007, which will no doubt take him around the world at least once, engaging in elaborate action sequences in exotic locales, trying to foil someone's evil plans. (2/20/05) Now that we know for sure that this is an adaptation of 'Casino Royale', we know the gist of the plot too. There are rumors, however, that this original novel will be more of an inspiration than a direct source, so some elements will be added or changed.
Quentin Tarantino recently told SciFi.com that he has talked with Pierce Brosnan about his dream idea of doing a serious, non-comedic adaptation of Ian Fleming's first James Bond novel, 'Casino Royale.' Tarantino's idea is to take the franchise back to its roots, on a much lower budget, for Brosnan's last Bond movie (figuring that after this movie, the franchise is going to restart with a new Bond so they have nothing to lose). Tarantino admits that he is unlikely to get to do this, but it's fun to imagine anyway. Here's hoping he gets to do it. (2/20/05) Well, apparently, Eon may have agreed with Tarantino's idea to give 'Casino Royale' the "royal" Bond treatment (they won the rights to do just that back in 1999), but not with the idea of him actually doing it. Instead, Martin Campbell, the director of 'GoldenEye', will return to the series.
